Added MD Protection with Addition of Serotype 2 Mareks Virus
Ultifend® is a HVT (Serotype 3) vector vaccine genetically engineered to expresses the VP2 gene of the Infectious Bursal Disease virus (IBDV) and the F gene of the Newcastle Disease virus (NDV).
ULTIFEND® IBD ND was selected from among 40 different vaccine candidates as the best construct for optimal protection against IBD, ND and Marek’s disease. Construct 3 was chosen because it demonstrated ND protection comparable to VECTORMUNE® ND and IBD protection comparable to the rHVT/VP2 STC construct.
ULTIFEND® IBD ND + RISPENS is a combination of the HVT vector vaccine expressing IBD and ND vaccine antigens with the conventional live Rispens (Serotype 1) Marek’s Disease vaccine, providing enhanced MD protection.

Protection was evaluated using standard bursal lesion scoring, with vaccinated groups consistently showing fewer lesions than controls

ND Protection
ULTIFEND® IBD ND induces a strong immune response against Newcastle Disease. Following challenge, vaccinated birds showed significantly reduced mortality compared with non-vaccinated controls.
Protection was assessed by monitoring survival and clinical response after ND challenge, demonstrating the ability of the vaccine to reduce disease impact. (Data on file.)
Marek’s Disease Protection
Through its HVT backbone, ULTIFEND® IBD ND provides protection against Marek’s Disease. In challenge studies, vaccinated birds developed fewer Marek’s-associated tumors compared with non-vaccinated groups.
Tumor incidence was evaluated following exposure to a virulent Marek’s Disease strain, demonstrating a protective effect consistent with HVT-based vaccination. (Data on file.)
